Play the Famous Idlewild Disc Golf Course While You Visit Northern Kentucky

When visiting Northern Kentucky, you won’t be left looking for things to see and do. From natural attractions to the historic city of Cincinnati just across the Ohio River, there’s a little something for everyone. Peaceful walks and intensive treks, horror-themed walking tours in the city, and gorgeous riverboat dinners under the stars – it’s a traveler’s paradise up here.

One of the most exciting things about visiting Northern Kentucky is that you’ll find activities that are completely new to you. The Creation Museum and Ark Adventure are one-of-a-kind attractions that you won’t find anywhere else.

And, if you’re looking for something sportier, you could even try a unique day out for Idlewild Disc Golf.

If you consider yourself an active person but haven’t tried Disc Golf, you’re in for a fantastic experience at a world-class course. It’s just minutes away from our luxury bed and breakfast in Kentucky.

What Exactly is Disc Golf?

Disc Golf is much like ordinary golf with one key exception. Instead of playing with clubs and a ball, you’ll work your way through the course with a flying disc or frisbee.

The format of the game has been around for decades, although the rules weren’t finalized until the 1970s. Played at the Idlewild Disc Golf course or anywhere else, the object is the same: complete the course with the least number of throws.

You can play alone to improve your abilities or play with friends and family for some light-hearted competition.

Disc Golf is a great sport for people of all ages, and it’s easy to get into, especially because it doesn’t require a lot of equipment. It’s a great workout although you can take things more slowly and leisurely if it suits you.

Disc Golf is a professional sport recognized by the International Olympic Committee. While you’re staying at our luxury bed and breakfast in Kentucky, you’ll be just around the corner from one of the best courses in the world.

Idlewild Disc Golf on a World-Class Course

Idlewild Disc Golf is played within the England-Idlewild Park, maintained by Boone County.

The park itself is a great place to visit while you’re exploring the region from our luxury bed and breakfast in Northern Kentucky.

Combining sports and leisure, some of the park highlights include…

  • Basketball Courts, Soccer Fields, and Baseball/Softball Fields.
  • More than 6 Miles of Mountain Bike Trails.
  • Paved Walking and Hiking Trails.
  • A Children’s Playground.
  • A Bike Park with Pump Tracks, Jump Lines, and a Slalom Course.
  • 3 Ponds.
  • Picnic Tables.
  • 3 Large Shelters are available to Reserve (with amenities for grilling).

Of course, there’s also the 24-Hole Championship Idlewild Disc Golf Course, an official course of the Disc Golf Pro Tour. It’s considered one of the ten best Disc Golf courses in the world.

Idlewild Disc Golf Offers a Challenge and Satisfaction

Disc Golf Pros love the Idlewild Disc Golf course for several reasons. One of these is the challenge that it offers. The course has a lot of forested areas which make for tight lines where accuracy is rewarded. There are also out-of-bounds water features like creeks that surround some of the smaller greens. There are a lot of changes in elevation, which makes the course technically challenging.

There’s also the distance of some of the holes to consider. Three of the holes are more than 400ft from start to end, which is a big ask for even the world’s best players.

Don’t let this put you off the park if you’re an amateur. There are 24 holes in total but when you play recreationally you don’t need to play them all. Trying out some of the more challenging ones can give you a good appreciation for the sport. You’ll also develop new techniques to overcome some of the harder holes.

Reviewers describe the course as being hard but fair, and that’s honestly the best way to put it. There are so many fun shots to master that you might find yourself repeating a few while not playing competitively.
